Ian Chapman

Ian Chapman has a diverse work experience in various government departments and corporations. Ian is currently working as the Manager of Market Policy & Regulatory Strategy at Stanwell Corporation Limited since February 2020. Prior to this, Ian held the position of Director of Energy Markets and National Strategy at the Department of Natural Resources, Mines, and Energy (Queensland) from August 2019 to February 2020. Ian also served as the Manager of Strategic Energy Reforms and Director of Energy Security Taskforce at the same department from May 2017 to October 2018.

Before joining the Department of Natural Resources, Mines, and Energy, Ian worked at the Department of Energy and Water Supply. Ian held the position of Manager of Energy Markets Policy from March 2015 to May 2017. During their tenure, they led a team responsible for delivering key gas and electricity markets policy reforms at both state and federal levels. Ian also represented the department and the Queensland government on the Council of Australian Government Energy Market Reform Working Group.

Ian also has experience working at CS Energy, where they served as a Shareholder Relations Advisor from January 2014 to February 2015. In this role, they provided strategic advice on government relations matters and developed and maintained relationships with Shareholding Ministers and their departments.

Prior to CS Energy, Ian worked at the Department of Energy and Water Supply as the State Network Energy Entities Manager from March 2012 to December 2013. Ian was responsible for developing and managing energy industry operational performance monitoring and government-owned corporations (GOCs) monitoring arrangements.

Ian's work experience also includes roles at the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, where they held various positions such as Manager of Regional Economic Strategies Unit, Manager of Industry and Client Services, A/Director of GOC and Technical Services/Industry and Client Services, and Manager of Generation Government Owned Corporations.

Ian's earlier career includes roles at the Department of Mines and Energy as the Manager of Energy Regulation and Legislation Unit and A/Director of Energy Regulation and Legislation Unit.

Ian Chapman has a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree with a focus on Entrepreneurship and International Business from the University of Victoria, which they earned between 1991 and 1994. Ian then pursued a Commerce University Transfer Program in Commerce and Business Management at Vancouver Island University from 1989 to 1991. In 2006, Ian Chapman attended Curtin University, where they completed a Graduate Certificate in Management with a specialization in Public Sector Management, which lasted from 2006 to 2008.
