Harper Wood has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. They started their career at the Corcoran School of Art in 1992 as a Model Coordinator. In 1997, they joined Stark Carpet & Fabric as a Senior Carpet Designer, where they designed area rugs and machine-made carpets for both business and residential clients. They also created new designs and colorways for new stock collections and utilized various techniques and styles. Harper worked there until 2009 and then became a self-employed Textile Designer specializing in carpet design until 2013. During this time, they also worked as a freelance Carpet Designer for Momeni, Inc. and Texstyle/Jamie Stern. In 2011, Harper became a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and also worked as a freelance textile designer for Stark Carpet & Fabric. In 2013, they worked as a Personal Assistant for Amy Torres, an online entrepreneur and blogger. Harper joined Harper Wood in 2014 as a Pet Portrait Illustrator, and in 2016, they became a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Overall, Harper has demonstrated a strong passion and creativity in various art and design-related roles throughout their career.
Harper Wood's education history includes several institutions and areas of study. From 2010 to 2013, they attended the New York Botanical Gardens, focusing on Botanical Illustration and Natural Science Illustration. During this time, they were also working towards a certificate in Botanical Illustration. Prior to that, from 1991 to 1994, they attended the Corcoran College of Art & Design, specializing in Figure Painting and Figure Drawing. Harper obtained their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Moore College of Art and Design between 1986 and 1990, where they studied Textile Design and Printmaking. Finally, Harper graduated from Mendham High School in 1983.
