Darrel Owens

Darrel Owens has extensive experience in the field of development, construction, and architecture. Darrel currently serves as the Head of Development & Construction Europe at Starwood Capital Group, a position they have held since January 2022. Prior to this, they were the Development Director Europe at the same company from January 2018 to January 2022.

Before joining Starwood Capital Group, Darrel worked as the Group Development & Property Director at the Principal Hotel Company, where they were responsible for overseeing large development projects and managing all aspects of property, including acquisition, development, and asset management. Darrel served in this role from November 2014 to January 2018.

Earlier in their career, Darrel held the position of Director - Head of Global Retail at Aedas Architects. In this role, they were responsible for the global retail sector and worked on various retail design and branding projects across multiple countries. Darrel worked at Aedas from June 2012 to November 2014.

Prior to their time at Aedas, Darrel worked at Walmart as the Head of Architecture, Construction & Technical Development UK. In this role, they managed design teams and was responsible for overseeing building construction projects on a national level. Darrel served in this position from August 2007 to June 2012.

Darrel began their career at Aedas in 1998 as a Regional Director and Architect, specializing in retail design. Darrel held this role until August 2007.

Throughout their career, Darrel has gained extensive experience in development, construction, and architecture, working on projects in Europe, Russia, America, UAE, India, and Australia. Darrel has expertise in large-scale development projects, retail design, branding, and interior architecture.

Darrel Owens attended The University of Huddersfield from 1991 to 1994 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Architecture, with a specialization in National & International Architecture. Darrel continued their education at the same university from 1994 to 1996, earning a Graduate Diploma in Architecture with Distinction. From 1996 to 1998, Darrel completed their Master's degree in Architecture, specializing in the field of Architecture at The University of Huddersfield.

Additionally, Darrel Owens obtained the Chartered Architect certification from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in September 2001. Darrel is also a Chartered Architect registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
