Christian Canas has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Christian started their career in 2006 as a research engineer and field engineer at CIC - Corporación para la Investigación de la Corrosión, where they provided technical and engineering support in corrosion services for oil and gas companies. In 2009, they joined Cenovus Energy as a Production Engineer, responsible for the production, optimization, and operational strategy of SAGD well pairs. Christian also worked as a Reservoir Engineer at Cenovus, focusing on developing new thermal recovery methods for SAGD assets.
In 2014, Christian moved to JACOS (Japan Canada Oil Sands Ltd) as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, where they contributed to the company's reservoir engineering activities. Christian stayed with JACOS until 2021.
In 2016, Christian co-founded a charity called Hope in the Dark, dedicated to helping impoverished children and single mothers in Colombia.
Most recently, Christian joined Strathcona Resources Ltd. in 2022 as a Senior Reservoir Engineer.
Christian Canas received their Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Industrial de Santander from 2000 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary from 2007 to 2009.
