Andy Wong has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Andy'smost recent position was as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Strong Analytics, starting in April 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of Machine Learning Scientist at the same company from April 2022 to March 2023.
Before joining Strong Analytics, Andy worked at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). Andy started as a Graduate Research Assistant from September 2018 to December 2020, where they developed and tested algorithms for detecting anomalies in machines. Andy also served as a Machine Learning Scientist at Amii from January 2021 to April 2022, leading AI development projects and providing consulting services to clients.
Andy gained research and industry experience during their time as a Research Intern at Mitsubishi Electric from June 2019 to August 2019, where they tested outlier detection algorithms and explored the transfer of failure knowledge between machines. Andy also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Alberta and contributed to projects involving Pyomo extensions for robust optimization problems and editing lecture materials for a graduate course in stochastic optimization theory.
In addition to their technical roles, Andy had internships at Enbridge Pipelines. As a Reliability and Software Engineering Intern from June 2017 to December 2017, they developed a system for failure prediction in pipelines using simulations and crack-growth models. Prior to that, they were a Testing and Research Intern at Enbridge from September 2016 to December 2016, conducting API1130 testing on pipeline leak detection models.
Andy's early experience includes a Summer Research position at the University of Alberta, where they explored the use of composite materials in home construction under the guidance of Dr. Pierre Mertiny.
Throughout their career, Andy has showcased their expertise in machine learning, Python, data analysis, and project leadership.
Andy Wong completed their education in a chronological order. Andy first attended Old Scona Academic from 2010 to 2013 and obtained an Alberta High School Diploma. Following that, they enrolled at the University of Alberta from 2013 to 2018 and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemical Engineering. Later, from 2018 to 2020, Andy pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science, again at the University of Alberta.
