Michael Stimson

General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property at Sun World Grapes

Michael Stimson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Michael is currently working as the General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property at Sun World International. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Genus PLC from 2018 until 2022. Before joining Genus PLC, they were the Corporate Intellectual Property Counsel at Corteva Agriscience from 2014 to 2018. Michael also has experience as a Partner at Jones Day, where they worked from 2011 to 2014. Michael briefly worked as an IP consultant at Stimson IP Consulting in 2011. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at Howrey LLP, including Partner and Patent Agent, from 1999 to 2011. Michael began their career as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Duke University in 1998 and as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at UC San Diego in 1997.

Michael Stimson completed their education in a chronological order. Michael first attended UC Irvine from 1988 to 1992, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Michael then pursued further education at Cornell University from 1992 to 1997, where they obtained both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

After completing their studies at Cornell, Stimson enrolled at Georgetown University Law Center from 1999 to 2002, where they earned a Juris Doctor degree with a focus in intellectual property law.

In terms of certifications, Michael Stimson obtained the following: they became a USPTO Registered Patent Attorney in March 2000, they obtained the California Bar in May 2003 (which is still active), the D.C. Bar in September 2004 (which is currently inactive), the Iowa Bar in August 2014 (which is currently inactive), and the Wisconsin Bar in September 2018 (which is still active).
