Sjoerd Hoogland

Sjoerd Hoogland is a highly experienced professional in the field of materials science and optoelectronics, currently serving as Chief Science Officer at SunDensity Inc. since May 2024. Sjoerd has held influential roles at the University of Toronto, including Director of the Alliance for AI-Accelerated Materials Discovery and Director of Research, Technology and Innovation, successfully managing significant research endeavors and partnerships with international industry partners, resulting in over $25 million in matched funding. Previously, Sjoerd was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Research and Development at QD Solar Inc., where efforts focused on developing low-cost solar cells. Earlier experience includes positions at InVisage Technologies and as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Toronto, with a strong emphasis on infrared nanomaterials and photonics. Sjoerd holds a Doctorate in Laser Physics from the University of Southampton and an MSC in Physics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
