Andrew Kennedy has a diverse work experience in the healthcare and education sectors. Andrew started their career as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto from September 2009 to May 2011. Andrew then worked as a Registered Nurse at Markham Stouffville Hospital from July 2014 to March 2017.
In 2013, Andrew joined Sunnybrook where they held multiple roles. Andrew was a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room from September 2013 to May 2017, where they were responsible for emergency room patients including ICU patients, triage, and trauma room. Andrew also designed and implemented a self-check-in kiosk for the triage area. From May 2017 to March 2018, they worked as an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Veterans Centre, where they developed and delivered best practice guidelines, conducted training, and reviewed the scope of practice of nursing staff.
Andrew then transitioned to a leadership role at Sunnybrook as a Patient Care Manager. From March 2018 to May 2023, they managed the Acute Surgical Orthopaedic unit, pre-admission clinic, Level 1 Special Care Unit, and after-hours administrators. Andrew implemented quality improvement initiatives and a Bundled Funding Pilot for hip and knee arthroplasty. From March 2020 to December 2021, they served as the Patient Care Manager of the COVID19 Assessment Centre and Vaccination Clinic, where they designed, operationalized, and managed the facilities and provided support to the community through mobile clinics.
In 2019, Andrew also worked as a Lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University. Overall, they have demonstrated a strong background in clinical care, leadership, education, and healthcare management.
Andrew Kennedy received their education from the University of Toronto. Andrew obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree specializing in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed a Masters of Science degree in Motor Control and Learning from 2009 to 2011. Andrew also holds a Bachelors of Physical Education and Health degree from 2005 to 2009. In addition to their formal education, Andrew has obtained several certifications, including being a Registered Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario in 2013 and achieving the Board Certified Orthopaedic Nurse (ONC) designation from the Canadian Nurses Association in June 2019. Andrew has also completed certifications in Coronary Care I & II from Humber College in 2015, as well as certifications from the Sunnybrook Leadership Institute at the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management and IDEAS from Health Quality Ontario in undisclosed years.
