Karen Fleming has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Karen started their career as a Family Physician at Bayview Family Practice in 1998 and continued in that role until December 2023. In 2001, they joined Women's College Hospital as the Director of Family Medicine Obstetrics, a position they held until 2009. Karen then moved to Sunnybrook where they have held various leadership roles, including Deputy Chief of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Director of Mentorship and Continuing Professional Development. Currently, they serve as the Chief of the Sunnybrook Department of Family and Community Medicine.
Karen Fleming completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology at the University of Toronto in 1984. Karen then pursued a Master of Science degree in Physiology, also at the University of Toronto, which they completed in 1989. Following this, Karen earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Toronto in 1989. From 1989 to 1992, they enrolled in the Family Medicine Residency Program, also at the University of Toronto, where they obtained their CCFP qualification. Prior to their university studies, Karen attended the Toronto French School until 1980.
