Melanie Dower started their work experience in 2003 at the Community Restorative Centre, where they held various roles including Service Development Manager and Community Education & Support Worker. Melanie provided training on the impact of incarceration on communities and offered support to families and friends of prisoners. In 2008, they worked as a Teacher at TAFE Sydney Institute in Community Welfare & Youth Work. In 2013, they became a Freelance Writer for Pillars NZ, creating resources for families of prisoners and producing a training package on the effects of incarceration. In 2014, they started writing for Verve Magazine as an online and print media contributor. In 2015, they joined Supercell as a Relocation & Onboarding specialist and later transitioned to the role of People Partner in 2022. Additionally, in 2016, they wrote a book called "Helsinki - People Make the City" as an author.
Melanie Dower began their education journey in 1992 at Rangitoto College, where they completed their high school education from 1992 to 1996. In 1997, they attended Auckland University of Technology and studied Communication and Media Studies for 2 years. Melanie did not specify whether they completed a degree in this field. In 2004, Melanie pursued further education at Sydney Institute TAFE NSW, where they earned a Diploma in Community Welfare with a focus on Family and Community Services, which they completed in 2005. In 2008, they attended Wesley Institute and obtained a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, specializing in Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching. In 2015, they enrolled in the Australian Writer's Centre to enhance their skills in Magazine and Newspaper Writing.
