Digital Media Strategist at Supermajority

Vanessa Petion has a diverse work experience. Vanessa most recently worked as a Digital Media Strategist at Supermajority starting in August 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Digital Organizer at DC Action from January 2021 to August 2022. Vanessa also served as a Communications Coordinator at the Council of the District of Columbia from October 2019 to December 2020.

Before their roles in politics and communications, Vanessa was involved in various positions that included community outreach and writing. Vanessa was a School Community Liaison VISTA at AmeriCorps VISTA from August 2018 to October 2019, where they coordinated volunteers, established partnerships, and managed after-school programs for Black and Latinx youth. Vanessa also worked as a VISTA Summer Associate at AmeriCorps from May 2018 to August 2018.

Prior to their involvement with AmeriCorps, Vanessa held part-time positions as a Sales Associate at Charlotte Russe from May 2015 to August 2018. Vanessa also served as a Lead Peer Tutor and Multicultural Student Council Chair at Stetson University Writing Center from August 2015 to May 2018.

In addition, Vanessa gained experience in journalism through their roles as an Editorial Intern at The West Volusia Beacon from January 2017 to May 2017 and as a Staff Writer/Contributing Editor at Odyssey Online from October 2015 to October 2016. At Odyssey Online, they researched and wrote articles, as well as assisted with editing.

Throughout their career, Vanessa has developed skills in digital media strategy, community organizing, communications coordination, volunteer management, event planning, and writing.

Vanessa Petion obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Communication and Media Studies from Stetson University, where they studied from 2014 to 2018. Vanessa later pursued their Master's degree in Strategic Communication at American University from 2018 to 2019.
