Head of Advisory at Sustainer

Thomas Steigenga has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Thomas is currently working as the Head of Advisory at Sustainer, a parametric and modular timber-frame housing company. In this role, they are leading the product development efforts for rail infra, applying modular construction expertise to biobased housing for rail infrastructure installations.

Additionally, Thomas has experience as a Project Manager at Sustainer, where they played a key role in the company's growth from a start-up to a fully circular buildings system provider for large scale housing projects, box-in-box redevelopments, and multi-story buildings.

In parallel to their work at Sustainer, Thomas also worked at Stone Soup as a Lead Facilitator. Stone Soup is a participatory community focused on the application of Experience Design to various fields. Thomas facilitated skills sharing, co-design, and experimentation of new ideas at Experience Design Conferences.

Prior to these roles, Thomas worked as a Creative Lead at Glimpse and as an Architectural Designer at ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles]. Thomas co-founded Pact11, where they served as a Co-Founder and Architect. Additionally, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at TU Delft, specializing in Climate Design & Sustainability.

Thomas gained valuable experience as an Architectural Intern at MVRDV and completed an internship at Goodget.org. Thomas also served as the Head of Board at VDG Lancet, a debating and cultural association related to the University of Technology in Delft, where they organized various events and workshops to enrich the cultural and intellectual experiences of members.

Furthermore, Thomas completed an internship at Architectenbureau Ellerman, Lucas & Van Vugt early in their career. Overall, Thomas has demonstrated expertise in project management, architectural design, sustainable practices, and facilitation of creative and participatory experiences.

Thomas Steigenga has a strong background in architecture. Thomas obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Architecture from Delft University of Technology, where they studied from 2008 to 2012. Following this, Thomas pursued further education and completed a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 2013 and 2014. Thomas then returned to Delft University of Technology and earned their Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Architecture, which they accomplished from 2012 to 2015. Thomas' education history demonstrates their commitment and dedication to the field of architecture.
