Maria Ekerot has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Maria began their career as a PhD student at Lund University, where they focused on plant biochemistry. Their research focused on aquaporins and the expression and regulation of water channel proteins.
After completing their PhD, Maria worked as a post-doc at the Biomedical Research Centre, University of Dundee, Scotland. Their research there was centered on the regulation of MAP kinase signal transduction pathways. Specifically, they focused on understanding the physiological roles of MAP kinase phosphatases using cultured cells.
Following their post-doc position, Maria joined Glycoprobe AB as a Senior Biochemist. Glycoprobe AB is a subsidiary of Glycorex Transplantation AB. In this role, they were responsible for developing new robust methods to produce the active components for the Glycosorb®-ABO columns. These columns contain blood group antigens and are used to remove patient's ABO-antibodies prior to transplantation.
Maria then transitioned to a Product, Sales, and Marketing role at Glycorex Transplantation AB, where they worked from 2018 to 2019. Maria was involved in various aspects of product development, sales, and marketing for the company.
Most recently, Maria joined Svar Life Science AB as a Senior Scientist and Project Manager. In this position, they are responsible for project managing bioanalytical study sample analysis in non-clinical/clinical studies (GLP/GCP). Maria also develops and validates immunoassays for PK, biomarkers, and ADA, as well as cell-based assays for NAb.
Maria Ekerot attended Lund University from 1991 to 1996, where they obtained a degree in Fil Mag in the fields of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
