Richard Crockett

Principal at SWA Group

Richard joined SWA after being a member of the SWA Summer Program. He is a graduate of the University of California AT Berkeley’s MLA and City and Regional Planning programs. In addition to his master’s degrees, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design and Geography from the University of Minnesota. Professionally, he focuses on design work for ecologically resilient and socially just public spaces for changing cities, innovative workplace environments, and cultural landscapes strongly tied to their localities. His design approach focuses on capturing the inherent qualities of a site’s geography and history while taking into account the uncertain future that faces many of the cities in which he works. Richard’s recent work includes a reimagining of a cultural landscape at China Beach, a historic beach in San Francisco; resiliency planning for Pingshan Riverfront in Shenzhen, China; a patient-oriented master plan for People’s Hospital of Jiangsu Province campus in Nanjing, China; a luxury residential garden in the hills above central Hong Kong; a futurist retrofit for a robotics workplace in San Jose; and post-fire recovery projects for National Park Service’s Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area. Richard is a licensed landscape architect in the State of California and is active in ASLA, SPUR, and the Cultural Landscape Foundation.
