Charles (Sandy) Weil

Charles (Sandy) Weil has an extensive work experience in the field of sports analytics, data science, and statistical modeling. Charles (Sandy) began their career in 1993 as a Statistical Analyst for William E. Wecker Associates, Inc. where they worked in SAS and SQL to develop a demographic index to summarize driver risk factors for motor vehicle liability litigation and modeled fuel system integrity. In 1996, they joined Bear Stearns as a Vice President where they fielded inquiries for trading credit derivatives products, coordinated unwind of a principal-protected high-yield note trust, and identified optimal exercises for Bermuda swaption portfolio. Weil then worked as a Project Manager, Data Manager for Wall Street On Demand from 2000 to 2003, during which time they were a charter member of the Data Management Team and designed and built tools to allow the team to efficiently manage data definitions, data availability, vendor entitlements, and content mapping across all clients and vendors. Weil also worked as a Project Manager for Janus Capital Group and Thomson Financial during this time. In 2006, Weil joined Sportsmetricians Consulting as a Statistician and Data Architecture Designer, where they constructed a best-in-class analysis database for extracting the most information from play-by-play NBA data. Charles (Sandy) then worked as a Senior Energy Analyst for Ascend Analytics from 2009 to 2015, during which time they performed energy risk and financial modeling and software implementation activities for utilities and investment banks. Weil also served as a product manager for software which builds arbitrage-free forward curves based on client’s customizable business rules. From 2015 to 2019, Weil worked as the Director of Sports Analytics for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, where they were a charter member and the head of an internal consulting group tasked with providing data analytics, data science, data wrangling/integration, and statistical modeling services and support to Kroenke-owned sports teams. Charles (Sandy) also supervised and mentored analysts and developers. Weil is currently the Director of Sports Analytics at Swish Analytics.

Charles (Sandy) Weil began their educational career at Evanston Township High School, where they graduated in 1989. Charles (Sandy) then attended Yale University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1993. In 1995, they went on to Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business, where they obtained a Master's degree in Computational Finance (Joint degree in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science) in 1996. Additionally, they have a certification in SAS Advanced Programming from the SAS Institute.
