Julien Descombes

Julien Descombes was appointed as ad interim CEO Life Capital with effect from 01 September 2020.

Born in Montréal in 1971, Julien is a Canadian and Swiss citizen. He started his professional career at Vaudoise Assurances in Lausanne as an Actuary for the Individual Life team in 1994. In 1997, Julien joined Swiss Re in Zurich as Marketing Actuary for L&H Belgium-Luxembourg. He then held various Pricing Actuary and Client Manager positions in Portugal and Belgium-Luxembourg before taking over a team of Client Managers, Marketing Actuaries, Underwriters and Claims Managers as Head of L&H Belgium-Luxembourg. From April 2007 until September 2012, Julien was Key Account Manager L&H with worldwide responsibility for five global clients. In October 2012, he was appointed as Head L&H Products Continental Europe, Middle East & Latin America Hub. In January 2015, Julien was appointed as Head L&H Products Europe, Middle East & Africa. From January 2017 until August 2020, Julien was Chief Underwriting Officer of Swiss Re Life Capital.

Julien studied Mathematics / Actuarial Science at the University of Montréal where he graduated in 1994. In 2005 he became Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).

Julien Descombes lives in Zurich and is married with two daughters.
