In 1999, they founded ListenSmart.com, an internet startup aimed at revolutionizing the music industry by providing opportunities for independent musicians. Sean developed a unique business model that shared advertising and e-commerce revenues with participating artists based on their popularity on the site.
In 2001, Fenlon became a co-owner of TheLoanPage.com, an internet mortgage lead company. The company experienced significant success, with over $10 million in sales and $3 million in EBITDA before being acquired by Battery Ventures in 2003. This acquisition marked Battery Ventures' first-ever full acquisition of a company and represented the first private exit of an online lead generation company.
In 2004, Fenlon founded DoublePositive, a performance-based online marketing company. The company was acquired by OSG in 2015 and later acquired by Zeta Global in 2023. Many DoublePositive alumni have gone on to hold important roles in other notable companies.

In 2015, Fenlon founded Meta42, a data-driven online marketing company specializing in the email traffic channel. The company was successfully acquired by Cogo Labs in 2021.

Sean Fenlon completed their education in music. Sean first attended Towson University from 1986 to 1990, earning a Bachelor's degree in Music. Sean then pursued further studies at The Johns Hopkins University, where they obtained a Master's degree in Music from 1991 to 1993. Continuing their education, Sean Fenlon also attended The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University from 1994 to 2001, earning a Doctorate in Music.
