Gabriel Lopez has a diverse work experience. In 2016, they founded Synvivia and served as its CEO. From 2008 to 2010, they worked at UC Berkeley, first as a Ph.D. student where they developed a genetically encoded biocontainment strategy, then as a postdoc where they expanded on their doctoral work and developed new protein engineering architectures and workflows. In 2010, they were the Team Leader of the Berkeley iGEM Team. Prior to that, in 2007, they worked as a Laboratory Technician at Siemens Healthcare.
Gabriel Lopez began their educational journey in 2002, when they attended UC Santa Barbara and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Spanish Language and Literature. In 2004-2005, they attended Universitat de Barcelona. In 2007, they attended Universidad de Costa Rica UCR. Gabriel then attended University of California, San Francisco from 2008-2015, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering. Finally, in 2016-2018, they attended Y Combinator.
