Avani Gowardhan

Avani Gowardhan is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Tala since April 2022, previously serving as a Senior Data Scientist and Data Scientist II at Indigo from August 2019 to April 2022. Avani completed a fellowship at Insight Data Science in mid-2019, where a predictive model called TickTock was developed to forecast Lyme disease cases, improving decision-making for pharmaceutical companies. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Student Researcher at Cornell University from August 2014 to May 2019, Avani contributed to galaxy evolution research, resulting in multiple peer-reviewed publications and successful research proposals. Prior experience includes a Visiting Graduate Research Fellow position at Caltech in 2018. Avani holds a PhD in Astronomy from Cornell University and an MS and BS in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune.
