Melissa Valdez has been working in the research field since 1996. Melissa began their career as a Research Laboratory Technician at the University of Washington. In 2001, they joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Infectious Disease Epidemiologist, Data Analyst, and Laboratory Fellow. In 2003, they moved to Westat - Improving Lives Through Research as a Project Manager and Epidemiologist at the CDC. In 2009, they joined PATH as a Senior Program Associate and Project Manager. In 2015, they became a Board Member at the Lenny Wilkens Foundation. Most recently, in 2020, they became a Clinical Research Project Manager at Talosix.
Melissa Valdez obtained a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) in Epidemiology from Emory University between 2001 and 2003. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology and Public Health from the University of Washington between 1994 and 1999.
