Sonja Heinze has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a software engineer at Tarides since April 2020. Prior to that, they were a contributor to open source projects for the GNOME Foundation from October 2019 to November 2020, where they specifically worked on Fractal, a Matrix client for the GNOME desktop. Sonja also received an Outreachy grant during their time at the GNOME Foundation.
Before their work with the foundation, Sonja was a PhD researcher in mathematics at BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics from June 2019 to September 2019. Sonja also pursued a PhD in mathematics at ICMAT from December 2013 to September 2018. During their doctoral studies, they were a visiting researcher at IMPA from March 2015 to June 2015.
Sonja's work experience also includes participating in the Recurse Center from September 2018 to December 2018, where they developed two personal projects and contributed to others. Sonja gained experience in Python, JS, Elm, Haskell, and machine learning during their time there.
Additionally, before their time at Recurse Center, Sonja worked as a teaching assistant at RWTH Aachen University from October 2012 to September 2013 and from October 2010 to September 2011.
Sonja Heinze pursued their education in the field of mathematics. Sonja began their academic journey in 2008 at RWTH Aachen University, where they received their Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics in 2011. Sonja continued their studies at the same institution and obtained a Master of Science degree in mathematics between 2011 and 2013. During this time, they also had the opportunity to participate in a university exchange program at the University of Nottingham for the academic year 2011-2012.
Sonja's passion for mathematics led their to pursue further research and academic excellence, which prompted their to enroll in a Ph.D. program. From 2013 to 2019, they attended Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where they dedicated herself to studying mathematical research. It is evident that Sonja's educational history showcases their commitment and dedication to the field of mathematics, as they have obtained a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree in this field.
