Wei Chen has been working in the field of data science since 2007. Wei started as a Research Assistant at Rice University, where they developed a Least-Squares Deconvolution code, tested the performance of the Zeeman Analyzer, modeled variabilities of spectral line Stokes profiles, analyzed four epochs of time-series of polarized spectra, and located accretion hot spots. Wei also served as a Teaching Assistant at Rice University. In 2015, they became a Data Scientist at TrueCar, Inc. and a Data Science Fellow at Zipfian Academy. At Zipfian Academy, they modeled latent topics and visualized topic trends of US feature movies, used Spark to cluster Wikipedia pages, used raw ride-sharing data to predict rider retention or churn, built classification/clustering models for New York Times articles, and built recommendation systems. In 2018, they joined Tatari as a Lead Data Scientist and was later promoted to Senior Data Scientist.
Wei Chen's education history includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Astronomy from Rice University, which they completed between 2007 and 2015. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China between 2002 and 2006. Additionally, Wei Chen has obtained several certifications from Coursera, including An Introduction to Interactive Programming in Python (November 2014), Introduction to Forensic Science (October 2014), Exploratory Data Analysis (September 2014), Digital Signal Processing (July 2014), Getting and Cleaning Data (July 2014), Core Concepts in Data Analysis (June 2014), R Programming (June 2014), The Data Scientist’s Toolbox (June 2014), and Machine Learning (May 2014).
