Anne Barlow

Tate St Ives Director at Tate

Anne Barlow has had a diverse and extensive work experience in the art world. Anne started their career in 1994 as the Curator of Contemporary Art and Design at Glasgow Museums, where they oversaw the collection, exhibitions, and artist residencies. From 1999 to 2006, they served as the Curator of Education and Media Programs at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, leading various initiatives and partnerships.

Barlow then moved on to curatorial roles at the Bucharest Biennale and the Pavilion of Latvia, 55th Venice Biennale. Anne also served as the Director of Art in General, a nonprofit art space, from 2007 to 2016, where they curated exhibitions and commissioned projects by both local and international artists.

In 2017, Barlow joined Tate as the Artistic Director of Tate St Ives, responsible for the artistic vision and programming. Anne later became the Director of Tate St Ives, overseeing the overall vision and artistic programming of the institution, as well as its partnerships with other institutions.

In 2022, Barlow took on the role of Curator for the Samdani Art Award 2023 at the Samdani Art Foundation.

Throughout their career, Barlow has curated exhibitions and commissioned projects with numerous artists, contributing to the contemporary art scene globally.

Anne Barlow received an M.A. (Hons) degree in the History of Art from the University of Glasgow.
