Scientist, Laser Plasma Interaction at TAU Systems

Herbie Smith, PhD, currently serves as a Scientist at TAU Systems since January 2023. Prior to this position, Herbie was a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin from September 2015 to December 2022, focusing on high power laser design and diagnostics, particularly the application of ultrashort lasers to energetic particle beam production. Between December 2018 and March 2020, Herbie co-founded and served as CEO of Arcturus Technologies, an environmental and waste management company targeting the healthcare sector with a mission to achieve a zero waste future. Additionally, Herbie held the roles of Principal and Associate at Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs in 2017, leading and participating in consulting projects for local startups. Herbie's academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Physics from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of New Hampshire.
