Eugene Sun has a diverse and extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. Eugene is currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Research and Development at TB Alliance since June 2019. Prior to this, they worked as the Director at Novan, Inc. from March 2018. Eugene also worked as a Consultant in the pharmaceutical field, taking up the role of Pharmaceutical Executive from November 2017. Eugene has held positions at BARDA, HHS as a Senior Medical Advisor from November 2018 to May 2019. Eugene served as the CEO of Melinta Therapeutics from September 2015 to November 2017 and as the Executive Vice President from April 2013 to September 2015. Before that, they held various roles at Abbott Laboratories, including Corporate Vice President of Global Pharmaceutical Clinical Development from April 2005 to August 2011, Divisional Vice President of Global Pharmaceutical Development from December 2000 to April 2005, Antiviral Venture Head from June 1997 to December 2000, and Associate Medical Director from September 1994 to June 1997. Eugene also worked as a Director at TAP Pharmaceuticals from 2004 to 2008. Eugene served as a member of the Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee at the Food and Drug Administration from 2001 to 2007. Eugene began their career as an Assistant Professor in the Infectious Diseases Division at the Department of Medicine in the University of California, San Francisco from 1991 to 1994.

Eugene Sun completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics at Harvard University from 1977 to 1981. Following this, they pursued their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at New York University School of Medicine from 1981 to 1985. Eugene then went on to the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where they engaged in an Internship, Residency, and Fellowship program from 1985 to 1991.
