Dr. Benjamin oversees all aspects of clinical quality, patient safety, medical management, infection control for the medical center and the quality and patient safety strategies for Baystate Medical Practices. He was instrumental in the development and launch of TechSpring and continues to serve as Chair of the TechSpring Steering Committee. Evan also participates actively in scholarly research in quality and patient safety.
He began a career in public health in 1990 helping to illuminate the problem of diabetes among Native Americans. His research interest in the quality of care brought him to Baystate first as the assistant director of the medical residency program and then as Medical Director of Quality for BMC and then as Vice President of Quality for BH. He sits on numerous national committees on quality and patient safety and is a published author in periodicals and peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Benjamin received his BA with highest honors from Williams College in Massachusetts and his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University . He was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, and completed public health training in the National Public Health Service in New Mexico . He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
