Gareth van Essen

Gareth van Essen has a long history of experience in the software engineering and IT fields. Gareth began their career in 2010 as a Technical Solutions Consultant at Peat's Office Equipment, where they were responsible for all aspects of I.T. solutions for client organisations. In 2012, they moved to blinkbox as a Development Engineer, where they were part of a team of three responsible for video streaming and e-commerce app development and maintenance across four platforms. In 2016, they joined Fergus Software as Head of Development, providing management both from a personnel and technical perspective to the development and test team. Gareth also served as Development Lead and Senior Software Engineer, developing across the full stack on a large product. In 2019, they took on the role of Technical Director at RUSH, and in 2021 they became a Remote Senior Software Engineer at Tether Ltd.

Gareth van Essen began their educational journey in 2004, when they enrolled at Massey University and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) with Honours in Computer Software Engineering in 2007. Gareth then continued their studies at Massey University and began a PhD in Computer Vision in 2008, though they did not complete the program.
