Andrew Hawkins, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB has a diverse work experience in the field of architecture. Beginning in 1999, they worked as an Intern Architect at Holster & Associates, Inc. until 2005. Andrew then became an Architect & Vice President at Holster & Associates, Inc. from 2005 to 2006. Following this, they were a Principal Architect and President at Hawkins, Holster & Associates, Inc. from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, they established their own firm, Hawkins Architecture, where they currently serve as the President and Principal Architect.
In addition to their architectural practice, Andrew has been actively involved in the professional community. From 2011 to 2015, they held various leadership roles at AIA Brazos, including President of the Chapter. Andrew was also a Chapter Director for the Brazos Chapter of AIA from 2016 to 2017. Furthermore, they served as the Committee Chair for New Media & Technology at the Texas Society of Architects in 2013.
Andrew has also been engaged in academia. Since 2017, they have been an Assistant Professor of Practice at Texas A&M University, where they previously served as a Visiting Lecturer from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, they co-host the Life of an Architect Podcast, which aims to communicate the role and value of architecture to a wider audience.
Currently, Andrew is also appointed as the Vice President over Communications at the Texas Society of Architects, where they oversee various communication initiatives and committees.
Throughout their career, Andrew has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and creating a better built environment.
Andrew Hawkins, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB, began their education in 1992 at Angelo State University, where they pursued a general studies program. Andrew then transferred to Texas A&M University, where they completed their Bachelor of Environmental Design degree from 1994 to 1997.
In 1997, Hawkins enrolled at the University of Oregon for a Masters of Architecture degree with a focus on Sustainability & Environment, which they successfully completed in 1999.
In terms of additional certifications, they became a Registered Architect through the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners in October 2006. In January 2009, they obtained the LEED Accredited Professional certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. In July 1999, they received the NCARB certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Later, in 2017, Hawkins acquired the ATC-45 (Disaster evaluation) certification from the ATC Applied Technology Council and the Safety Assessment Program certification from Cal OES (State of California, Governor's Office of Emergency Services) in September 2017.
