James Schulte

James is a Partner at The Ad Hoc Group, where he brings expertise spanning policy, growth, entrepreneurship, investing, and strategy across multiple climate tech verticals.

Most recently, James served as a Partner and Co-Founder at Sunfox Capital, a growth equity fund investing in companies accelerating the energy transition. He previously worked at Exelon with roles that included leading Energy Policy at ComEd, directing Exelon’s venture studio, and supporting Exelon’s Corporate Strategy, Innovation, and Sustainability leadership team. Prior to joining Exelon, James was a Managing Director at Energy Impact Partners, supporting efforts across strategy, research, business development, and utility collaboration. He also has experience as a consultant in McKinsey’s Electric Power & Natural Gas practice. James graduated with honors from both Yale University (BA in History) and the University of Chicago (JD and MBA).

James is a proud resident of Chicago’s South Side, where he lives with his wife, daughter, and son. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, former Chair of Evergreen Climate Innocation’s Industry Advisory Council, and a mentor at mHUB. He James also serves as an Operating Partner at Sunfox Capital and a Board Observer for GridX.
