French Caldwell has a long and varied career in the risk management and governance industry. In 2021, they began their current role as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at Archer Integrated Risk Management. Prior to this, they were Chief Financial Officer and Co-Founder of The Analyst Syndicate and Founder and Chief of Research at FCInsight, both of which are members of The Analyst Syndicate. From 2014 to 2018, they were Chief Marketing Officer at MetricStream, where they were responsible for the digital transformation from on-premise to cloud solutions and the launch of the M7 regtech platform and applications. From 1999 to 2014, French was Vice President and Gartner Fellow at Gartner, Inc., where they were one of the dozen senior-most innovators in the Gartner research community. French was responsible for leading research projects and analysts globally for executive clients on strategies, markets, and processes relevant to best practices and technology solutions for enterprise risk management (ERM), cyber security, privacy, public policy and legal developments, regtech, regulatory compliance, and strategic information governance. From 2011 to 2018, French was Governor of the Board of Governors at the Chesapeake Yacht Club and from 2000 to 2018, they were a Board Member and Researcher at the George Washington University Institute for Innovation and Knowledge Management. From 1997 to 1999, French was Senior Manager at Arthur Andersen, where they were responsible for establishing a Knowledge Services practice in the Government Industry Group. From 1995 to 1997, they were Director at Richard S. Carson & Associates, directing Business Process Reengineering Engagements and developing new clients for the company. Finally, from 1994 to 1995, French was International Liaison and Special Projects Director at the Commission on Roles and Missions of the Armed Forces, where they were appointed as the Diplomatic Liaison and directed a staff of analysts for a congressional commission evaluating the post-cold-war roles and missions of the armed forces.
French Caldwell's education history begins with Pascagoula High School, which they attended from 1969 to 1972. French then attended the United States Naval Academy from 1973 to 1977, where they earned a BS in Oceanography. Next, they attended Old Dominion University from 1987 to 1989, where they earned a MA in International Economics, Strategy, and Diplomacy. In 1989 and 1990, they attended the U.S. Naval War College, where they earned a Command and Staff degree. Finally, they attended Northeastern University from 2013 to 2018, where they earned a Doctor in Law and Policy in Disruptive Technology. French also holds a certification from the University of Cambridge in Cambrdige RegTech: AI for Financial Regulation, Risk and Compliance, which they obtained in November of 2022.
