Prof Idris A. Rai

Prof Idris A. Rai is an accomplished academic and leader in communications networks, currently serving as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Inter-University Council for East Africa since January 2023. With extensive experience at the Association of Commonwealth Universities since 2013 in multiple roles including ACU Ambassador and Honorary Treasurer, Prof Rai has also held significant positions such as Acting CEO at UbuntuNet Alliance and Vice President at the International Electrotechnical Commission's Tanzanian NEC. As a Professor and former Vice Chancellor at the State University of Zanzibar, Prof Rai contributed to various committees, including finance and recruitment. Prof Rai’s academic credentials include a PhD from Telecom ParisTech and master's and bachelor's degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University and Boğaziçi University, respectively.
