Vijay Rangarajan currently serves as the Chief Executive of The Electoral Commission since March 2024. Prior to this role, Vijay held the position of Director General at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office from September 2020 to March 2024, overseeing areas such as health, gender, education, climate change, and science across the Americas and Overseas Territories. Vijay's diplomatic experience includes serving as the British Ambassador to Brazil and various key roles within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including Europe Director and Multilateral Policy Director. Additional leadership roles include Director of Political and Constitutional Reform at the Cabinet Office and Constitution Director at the UK Ministry of Justice. Vijay's early career features posts in justice and home affairs and representation at the British Embassy in Mexico City. Vijay holds a PhD in Astrophysics and a Part III in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
