Head Of Public Engagement With Science at The Francis Crick Institute

Kat Nilsson has a diverse work experience in the field of public engagement with science. Kat currently serves as the Head of Public Engagement with Science at The Francis Crick Institute since October 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Director of Museums & Cultural Programmes at UCL from October 2019 to November 2023. Before that, they served as the Head of National Public Programmes at the Natural History Museum from June 2015 to September 2019, where they achieved notable accomplishments such as creating the vision and leading the successful project for Dippy on Tour. From November 2008 to June 2015, they held the position of Head of Contemporary Science at the Science Museum Group. Earlier in their career, they worked at the Science Museum, London, where they held the roles of Events Programmes Manager and Exhibition Developer. Kat also has prior experience working at BSS - Science Line, where they served as a Manager, Web Manager, and Science Information Officer.

Kat Nilsson obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Sciences from The University of Manchester. Kat then pursued a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with a specialization in Science at the Institute of Education from 1997 to 1998. Following this, they completed a Master of Science degree in Science Communication at Imperial College London from 2000 to 2001. No specific start or end years were provided for their education at The University of Manchester.
