Chief Program Officer (cpo) at The Hunger Project

Rowlands Kaotcha has a diverse work experience history. Rowlands began their career in 1998 as an Assistant Seed Production Manager at the National Seed Company of Malawi. Rowlands was responsible for planning seed production targets, identifying contract seed growers, and supervising field seed multiplication programs. Rowlands then worked as a Project Manager at Concern Universal, where they provided leadership for the implementation and management of the Bembeke Household Food Security Project.

In 2001, they joined The Hunger Project and served in various roles throughout their tenure. Rowlands started as the Head of Programs, where they reported to the Country Director and was responsible for program planning and implementation. Rowlands managed programs such as Food Security, Water Health and Sanitation, HIV & AIDS, Literacy and Education, and Environment and Natural Resources.

Rowlands took on additional responsibilities as the Mozambique Interim Country Director, leading the strategic repositioning of THP-Mozambique. Rowlands also served as the Country Director for Malawi and Mozambique, as well as the Coach-Zambia. In 2019, they became the Southern Africa Region Director for The Hunger Project. Their most recent role at the organization is as the Global VP | Program Strategy. Africa & Mexico Director and MCLD Southern Africa Coordinator, a position they have held since January 2020.

Rowlands Kaotcha has a strong educational background in the field of agriculture and management. Rowlands obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture from the University of Malawi, Bunda College of Agriculture, where they specialized in Crop Science. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science Degree in Agronomy with a focus on Crop Protection from the same institution, completing their studies in 2000. Later, from 2008 to 2010, Rowlands enrolled at the Eastern and Southern African Institute of Management (ESAMI) in Tanzania, where they earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a specialization in Business Administration and Management, General.
