Crystal Sewell has over 30 years of experience in human resources and talent management. Crystal began their career in 1990 as a Human Resource Assistant with the City of Ypsilanti. Crystal then worked as a Training and Development Specialist at Electronic Data Systems from 1991 to 1993. In 1998, they became the Director of Human Resources at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Crystal then joined the Toledo Museum of Art in 2002 as the Director of Human Resources, where they worked until 2008. Since 2008, they have been serving as the Director of Talent and Human Resources at The Kresge Foundation.
Crystal Sewell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University, where they attended from 1987 to 1991. Crystal later pursued a Master of Science in Human Resources degree at Central Michigan University from 1997 to 1999. In terms of certifications, Crystal obtained the OD Certification from Linkage, Inc. in 2004, followed by the SPHR certification from the HR Certification Institute in 2009. Crystal then became a Human Capital Strategist after receiving certification from the Human Capital Institute in 2013. Most recently, in 2017, Crystal completed the Everything DiSC Workplace® Certification from CrossKnowledge.
