Timothy Pickering

Timothy Pickering is an accomplished professional in the field of astronomy and instrumentation, currently serving as an Assistant Research Professor at MMT Observatory since January 2017, where responsibilities include overseeing facility instrumentation and maintaining documentation. Prior experience includes significant roles as a Systems Software Engineer at Space Telescope Science Institute from August 2013 to December 2016, contributing to the multi-mission exposure time calculator system for future space telescope missions, as well as work as a SALT Astronomer at South African Astronomical Observatory from October 2009 to July 2013, focusing on queue observations and data pipeline maintenance. Additional positions held include Associate Staff Scientist and Assistant Staff Scientist at MMT Observatory and Steward Observatory, respectively, where software development and IT management were key tasks. Pickering earned a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Arizona and a BS in Astronomy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
