Nicola Leech has a diverse range of work experience in the media industry. Nicola started their career as a Digi-telle Trainee at Media Training North West in 2005. Nicola then worked as a Writer for Big Issue in the North in 2007. In the same year, they worked as a Support Worker for Reed Social Care, providing support for individuals with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Nicola also had a brief stint as an ING Trainee at ITV, where they were selected from thousands of applicants to work with the Calendar News Team. Nicola then joined ITV News as a Broadcast Journalist/Producer, taking on various responsibilities such as leading a team, creating engaging digital content, and coordinating national coverage with other news outlets. Nicola's dedication to supporting others led their to volunteer as a Support Volunteer for RNID, where they provided assistance and advice to individuals with hearing aids. Nicola also worked as a Diversity Talent Champion at ITV Careers from 2010 to 2012. Their experience in broadcast journalism continued at BBC, where they held roles such as Senior Journalist/Planning lead, Senior Journalist/Social Media lead, and Broadcast Journalist/Producer. Their most recent position is as the Head of Social and Audience at The National News, which they started in 2021.

Nicola Leech's education history begins in 2003 when they enrolled at The University of Manchester. Nicola pursued a Bachelor's degree in English language and literature, and completed the program in 2006. In 2007, Nicola attended Sheffield Norton and earned a National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) qualification in Journalism. Additionally, they also attended Wolverhampton College from 2006 to 2007, where they obtained another NCTJ qualification in Journalism.
