Lourdes Venard is an experienced education editor currently working at The News Literacy Project since August 2022. Venard has held positions as Lead Course Developer at the University of California San Diego Extension since April 2019, overseeing course development for the institution’s Copyediting Certificate program, and has also served as Lead Instructor for UC San Diego Extension since December 2011. As an Online Instructor for the Editorial Freelancers Association since January 2016, Venard teaches various copyediting courses. Prior roles include Digital Editor at Pearson, President of Comma Sense Editing, LLC, and News Editor at Newsday, where supervision of a universal copy desk was a key responsibility. Additional experience includes teaching at Stony Brook University and copy editor roles at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Chicago Tribune. Venard holds an MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a BA in Communications from the University of Miami.
