Garrett Exner is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in national security and military operations. Currently serving as a Contributing Editor for Providence Magazine and as Executive Director for The Public Interest Fellowship since March 2022, Garrett also holds the position of Adjunct Fellow at the Hudson Institute. Previous roles include Military Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and Counterterrorism Policy Advisor at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where significant responsibilities involved advising on counterterrorism strategies and preparing Department of Defense leaders for critical engagements. With a strong military background, Garrett served as a Special Operations Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command and rose to the rank of Major, overseeing complex operations and training for Marines globally. Educational credentials include a Master of Arts in Global Policy from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from the University of the Incarnate Word.
