Libi Newell has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several years. They started their career as a Recycling Communication Manager and Sustainability Engagement Manager at London 2012, where they managed the delivery of a recycling communications program and supported sustainability engagement for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. After their time at London 2012, Libi worked at WRAP as an Event Project Manager and later joined Keep Britain Tidy as a Community Engagement Team Leader.
Libi then transitioned to roles focused on sustainability and environmental action. They served as a Sustainability Coordinator at Glasgow 2014 Limited and as a Project Manager at Zero Waste Scotland, where they worked on resource efficiency in events. Subsequently, Libi became the Zero Waste Dunbar Project Manager at Sustaining Dunbar and the Communications and Community Relations Manager at The Golf Environment Organization.
In 2017, Libi joined Pilotlight as a Partnerships Manager in Scotland, where they worked until 2019. During this time, they provided support and developed strategies for national and international sporting organizations as a freelance Sustainability Consultant. Libi partnered with organizations like the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf and Sustainability Experts Ltd., working on projects such as developing guidance materials for Formula 1 Race Promoters and implementing sustainability initiatives for golf tournaments worldwide.
Currently, Libi holds the position of Head of Corporate Sustainability at The R&A, starting in 2022.
Libi Newell completed their Bachelor of Science degree (BSc Hons) in Zoology at The University of Edinburgh from 2001 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Ecotourism at Edinburgh Napier University from 2006 to 2007.
