Courtney Farrell

Director, Media & Communications Practice at The Raben Group

As a director in The Raben Group’s Media & Communications Practice, Courtney Farrell combines her experience in strategic communications, media relations, and digital strategy to help clients tell their stories offline and online.

Prior to Raben, Courtney was a senior media and digital strategist at Balestra Media, where she supported clients with planning, developing, and executing strategic communications plans. She helped clients such as ACLU, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, and the International Rescue Committee generate print, broadcast, and radio coverage in top-tier national, state, and local outlets like the Associated Press, The New York Times, ABC News, NPR, and USA Today. Courtney managed several website design and development projects, including No Kids in Prison — an interactive website built to inspire people to get involved in the Youth First Initiative’s national campaign to reduce youth incarceration — and Property of the People, a nonprofit organization that aggressively pursues government transparency.

Before Balestra Media, Courtney worked at Talbot Digital, where she planned and analyzed digital ad campaigns for the California Teachers Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, as well as for several members of Congress, including Senator Chris Van Hollen and Representatives Julia Brownley, Carol Shea-Porter, and Ro Khanna. She also assessed clients’ digital platforms, created editorial calendars, and generated content.

Earlier in her career, Courtney was a field director for a congressional campaign and a union representative for the United Food and Commercial Workers in Kalamazoo, Mich. A Michigan native, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Criminal Justice. In 2016, she was elected by Michigan’s 6th congressional district Democrats to represent them at the Democratic National Convention. When she’s offline, she’s usually playing tennis.
