Nick Talbot is an accomplished academic and research leader currently serving as Executive Director at The Sainsbury Laboratory since September 2018. Prior to this role, Talbot held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Exeter from 1993 to August 2018, where responsibilities included managing research and knowledge transfer policies, overseeing Research Excellence Framework submissions, and chairing the university’s Ethics Committee and Research and Knowledge Transfer Management Board. Talbot has also served as a Professor of Molecular Genetics, an ERC Advanced Investigator, and has supervised various grants from notable organizations including BBSRC and the European Union, focusing on plant diseases caused by fungi. Additionally, Talbot was Chair of the Board of Directors at Rothamsted Research from 2008 to July 2014 and conducted postdoctoral work at Purdue University specializing in the molecular genetics of plant infection. Talbot's educational background includes a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of East Anglia and a BSc in Microbiology from Swansea University.
