James obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1987. James then pursued further education at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1993. Following this, they completed a Neurology Residency Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, they attended the University of Michigan and studied Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. James Geyer also holds additional certifications in Neurology, Sleep Medicine, and Neuroimaging from reputable institutions.
