Bing West is an accomplished writer with a career spanning several decades, beginning as a grunt in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1967 where involvement included roles within a rifle platoon, mortar platoon, and Force Recon Team Primness. West later served as a professor and dean at the Naval War College from 1970 to 1980 and held the position of Assistant Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon from 1981 to 1983. Since 1983, West has focused on a writing career, drawing on extensive military and governmental experience. West holds a Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University.
