Tonya Smoot

Tonya Smoot, PhD, has extensive work experience in the field of biostatistics. Tonya currently holds the position of Sr. Director Biostatistics at Therapeutics Inc. since 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Staff Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Beckman Coulter Diagnostics from 2020 to 2021. From 2018 to 2020, they served as the Director Biostatistics, US at Clinipace. Tonya also worked as an Associate Director, Biostatistics at Chiltern from 2017 to 2018. Tonya has a strong background in the pharmaceutical industry, having worked at Alcon as the Head of Trial Statistics from 2005 to 2015 and as a Senior Biostatistician from 1997 to 1999. Tonya has also gained teaching experience as an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville from 2002 to 2005 and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1993 to 1997. Prior to their academic career, they worked as a Principal Biostatistician at GSK from 1999 to 2002.

Tonya Smoot, PhD has a diverse and impressive education history. Tonya holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biostatistics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which they obtained in 1993. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Mathematics at Spelman College in 1983. In addition, they have also obtained an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical and Device Law and Compliance from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2015.
