Cherie Kelly has over a decade of work experience in the education field. Cherie began their career in 2000 as an Education Department Assistant at Kansas City Public Television. In this role, they were responsible for grant-writing, event coordination, organization of a major state-wide educator workshop program and the facilitation of programming celebration events. In 2004, they took on the role of English Literature Teacher at Upward Bound at University of Missouri-Kansas City. In this role, they taught students literature and writing in thematic units designed to fit a summer enrichment program. Cherie also served as teacher for two intensive eight week programs and worked as an ACT preparation teacher during the 2004-2005 school year. In 2005, they became a Social Studies Teacher at Raymore-Peculiar High School. In this role, they taught students in American Government, American History, Advanced Placement American History, Psychology, Current Events, and a self-created Holocaust Studies class. Cherie also served in a variety of extended activities, including two leadership committees and an education technology development program. In 2011, they began their current role as School Programs Manager at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. In this role, they work primarily with those who educate K-12 students. This includes managing the Museum and Memorial’s internship program, training and reviewing their Interpretive Corps who lead hundreds of tours for adult guests and approximately 20,000 K-12 learners every year. Cherie also creates content and pedagogy learning opportunities and presents them through professional development sessions, conference presentations and unique six-hour workshops offered around the nation as part of their WWI 360 program.
Cherie Kelly obtained a B.A. in History and a minor in English from the University of Missouri-Kansas City between 1992 and 1997. Cherie then pursued an M.A. in History from the same university between 1999 and 2000. In 2002, they completed an Education Certification in Social Studies Teacher Education from Avila University. Additionally, Cherie Kelly holds certifications in History Education (Grades 5-12) and Language Arts Education (Grades 5-12) from the State of Missouri.
