Rae O'Brien

Rae O'Brien is an experienced mining executive currently serving as Group Executive Australia East at Thiess since February 2024. Previously, Rae held the position of Executive General Manager - Mining Excellence at Centennial, where responsibilities included integrating technical, business development, operations excellence, and approvals functions. As a Mining Advisor to the CEO at the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) and Chair of the Board of Directors at Peabody Energy, Rae provided strategic oversight and governance. Rae's extensive background includes roles at Peabody Energy as General Manager of the Metropolitan Mine and Group Manager of Technical Services at GlencoreXstrata Plc, focusing on operational, technical, and financial performance. Education includes a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from UNSW, an MBA in Technology Management from La Trobe University, and completion of the Graduate Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, among other qualifications in mining engineering and governance.
