Christopher Van Oort has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries.
Christopher began their career at Thinix in 2004, where they worked as a Sr. Software Engineer / Office Manager. At Thinix, they started the Ames office, managed a team of 10 people, and developed the company's first internship program. Christopher also advised colleges and universities on software and computer science curriculum. During their time at Thinix, they developed and launched Akative.com, a website aimed at eliminating internet downtime.
In 2012, Christopher started working as an Independent Software Consultant on the side. As a Chief Engineer, they provided analysis, advisory, and software engineering services to companies such as Kozy Heat Fireplaces and Hussong MFG. Christopher also built and developed the Kozy Heat mobile web application.
From 2010 to 2012, Christopher held leadership roles at Kappa Sigma Fraternity, serving as Grand Master and Grand Procurator of the Gamma-Lambda Chapter.
In 2012, Christopher worked as a Technology Advisor and Developer for the Smithsonian Exhibit Team at Iowa State University. In this role, they led the technology aspects of a $100,000+ exhibit for the Smithsonian's annual Folklife Festival. Christopher recruited and formed a software development team and received an award for their contributions.
Christopher also held positions as the Director of Information Technology for the Executive Cabinet of the Iowa State Government of the Student Body and as President of the Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi.
In 2009, they served as the Webmaster for the Iowa State University Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Christopher Van Oort completed their education history with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Software Engineering from Iowa State University. Christopher attended the university from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, they obtained their high school diploma from Okoboji High School between 2005 and 2009. In addition to their formal education, Christopher also holds certifications as an Umbraco 8 Certified Expert, which they obtained in May 2020, and as an Umbraco 7 Certified Expert, which they obtained in November 2018.
