Matt Skalka

Matt Skalka has a diverse work experience in the title and escrow industry. Matt is currently serving as the Head of the Stewart Title Energy Group and Houston Commercial Services at Stewart Title National Commercial Services since June 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Executive Vice President, Underwriting and Energy Services at Thomas Title & Escrow from June 2020. Matt also served as the Senior Vice President, Energy Services & Houston Market Leader at Thomas Title & Escrow from February 2018 to June 2020.

Before joining Thomas Title & Escrow, Matt worked at Stewart Title Commercial Services from April 2013 to January 2018 as an Associate Senior Underwriting Counsel/Commercial Unit Supervisor/AVP. In this role, they provided guidance and underwriting support for complex commercial transactions, with a focus on renewable energy projects, mining operations, and other energy-related infrastructure facilities. Matt also managed a business unit consisting of escrow officers and title coordinators.

Prior to that, they worked at Stewart Title Limited as an Underwriter/Reinsurance Underwriter from October 2011 to April 2013. In this role, they evaluated and underwrote various types of title risks, attended events to promote company products, and found solutions for title defects.

Matt also gained experience at Stewart Title Company as an Associate Counsel from February 2011 to October 2011, where they reviewed contracts, assisted in due diligence for acquisitions, and provided legal consultation and representation.

Matt'scareer in the title and escrow industry began at Stewart Title Guaranty Company, where they served as a Claims Counsel from November 2010 to October 2011. In this role, they investigated claims, drafted legal documents, and handled international escrow disputes.

Matt's international experience includes working as an International Reinsurance Coordinator at Stewart Information International from May 2007 to August 2008. Matt Skalka has a BA Double Major in Political Science and Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin, earned between 2002 and 2006. Then, between 2006 and 2010, they obtained a J.D. degree in Law from South Texas College of Law Houston. In 2008 and 2009, they also pursued an MBA degree in Business at Mays Business School - Texas A&M University. Additionally, they have studied Spanish Language and Literature at Universidad LCI Veritas, although the specific dates for this are not provided.
