David Helliwell has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. David is currently the Co-Founder & Executive Board Chair of Thrive Health, a software platform focused on improving healthcare delivery and patient well-being. Prior to this, they were a Mentor at Creative Destruction Lab and an Advisory Board Member at the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).
In the past, David served as the VP Utility Solutions at EnerNOC after their acquisition of Pulse Energy, where they were the Co-Founder & CEO. Pulse Energy was a leading provider of energy management services. David also worked as the Director of Policy to a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Canada, where they focused on environmental, economic, and first nations policy.
Earlier in their career, David was a Senior Consultant at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and an Exploration Geophysicist at Pacific Geophysical. David gained experience in field exploration and 3D inversion modeling for resource exploration and also developed skills in problem-solving and technical troubleshooting. Additionally, David served as a Judge for the BC Healthcare Awards during their time at The Health Employers Association of BC.
David took a break from their professional career to spend time with their family and engage in volunteer work during a Family Sabbatical in the South Pacific. Through these experiences, they developed skills in leadership, teamwork, and adaptability.
David Helliwell began their education in 1990 at The University of British Columbia, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics. David completed their studies in 1994. From 1991 to 1993, they attended Harvard University, where they focused on Geophysics, Physics, and Astronomy and earned their BSc degree. In 1999, they enrolled at École des Ponts Business School and obtained an MBA degree in the following year.
